GLOBAL FOOD

Food items often travel around the world before we eat them. Analyze eating habits in your country. You might consider the following aspects, among others: time (mealtimes, time it takes to prepare and eat meals), accelerating lifestyles, presence of women in the workforce, access to a variety of foods, food advertising, ethnic food (which countries = which foods?)

  1. In Germany you normally eat 3 times a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. The breakfast's preparation doesn't cost a lot of time as most of the Germans eat rolls or bread either with jam or with cheese, for example. Others just eat cornflakes with milk or yogurt. Lunch is much more important as we normally eat a hot meal. But there are big differences between familys concerning what we eat as other countries have a very big influence. Usually we eat a lot of pasta and pizza or rice and not just typical German food. In the evenings some familys just eat bread with cheese or cold meat, otheres cook again.

  2. I think the accelerating lifestyle changed a lot on how we eat and what we eat.
More and more kids are in school due lunchtime and eat in their cafeteria or go to a fast-food-restaurant. Workers have to stick to the meals their cafeteria cooks. So those pearsons, which are quite a lot can hardly care abuot their food, about their health which is related to the food. So i think when it´s possible we schuold eat healthy things which take time to cook, but taste very well and you don´t have a bad conscience. And what is more worth than our health?
so we schuld look after it.

  3. I agree to markus, 'cause of all the fast food restaurants, which the people and above all the children like, they become fat and risk their health.
The best would be to eat much bread in the morning, a good tasting, warm meal at lunchtime and in the evening not much anymore.

  4. In America we eat three times a day as well. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner; it kind of seems like we eat less breakfast nowadays and that’s easy just cereal with milk of course or bagels there is too much to say. And lunch time we eat anything, typically when we are at school we go out and eat. And for dinner we eat a hot meal every night and most of the time it’s a family meal. Americans also eat a lot of other countries food, we eat a lot of Chinese food , Mexican food.

  5. In the United States we eat three times a day. Breakfast is the most important because it is the first meal of the day. It may take long or not depending on what you eat. Also there are a lot of different cultures in the United States so there are different varieties of foods.

  6. In America, we have 3 meals a day, Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Most American's, like myself, skip breakfast or eat something small like a bowl of cereal. Lunch is sometimes skipped too but taken a little more seriously. Our dinner is probably the our most important meal of the day. Families come together at the end of their day to eat.
I know the acceleration of life affects eating habits a lot. If your really busy you eat less and something quick, maybe thats why there's so many fast food resturaunts in America. Not only are there fast FOOD resturaunts, but there's fast coffee shops! I think the presence of women in the workforce affect eating habits too. Since, women (or the stay at home daddy =]) started working, their familes probably eat less or less healthy foods. I know when my mom started working I no longer got waffles or pancakes before school, I just had to grab a poptart! I didn't get a packed lunch anymore, I had to eat the nasty school food, and dinner was usually lazy because my mom was so tired from work.
The access to the different types of food, I think, is a great thing. I can only stand eating mac n cheese for so long!! I LOVE eating chinese, which I find as the nicest meal ever.

  7. In my opinion Amber wrote a very interesting comment about the developpment of eating habits since her mom has started working. It's a big problem that parents who have to work a lot don't have enought time to care about their children's eating habits and everybody knows about the consequence: overweight.
Often parents give money to their children so that they can buy something to eat during break at school instead of preparing something healthy for them. In our school a lot of children buy muffins or doughnuts or chocolate instead of a healthy sandwiches. I don't want to critizize our cafeteria but I don't think that it's good that they sell so much unhealthy things, and that they don't sell any fruits..Well, the problem is that most of the children might not buy fruits as a lot of them don't care about their health..
To put it into a nutshell it becomes clear that eating habits changed a lot..Earlier, nobody bought food at school as that would have been much too expensive and nowadays the comfort leads to children having a lot of money from their parents to buy something to eat at school!

  8. I agree on Ambers opinion about the women in the worforce. It´s exactly the same at home. Since my mum goes to work I don´t get a lunch-packet for school. At lunchtime I sometimes have to buy my food in the cafeteria which is - suprise - not as good as mum´s eating. But my mum works only half-time so she does cook lunch on several days, so I think thats the best solution for my mum and my sister and me.

  9. Kathi made a good point about cafeteria food. All the schools I went to, they tried to make good and nutritious food, but it never tasted very good. Why would a kid want to eat something nasty? And in my school now, the food is good, its just not that nutritous. We have fries, chicken sandwiches, buritos, pizza, etc. Sure eating that stuff once in a while would be fine, but this stuff is served everyday. Think of how much weight everyone that eats at the school is putting on!

  10. As Brandon, Briseidy and Amber said, here in America we have the habit of eating 3 times a day. I think that most of us students skip breakfast because we have to get early to school or for many other reasons. I personally skip it because I don’t want to be late to my class. Then comes lunch at which I always go out and eat at fast food restaurants then at dinner I think most of us eat a good homemade meal.
